ARCHETYPE Ankle brachial pressure index (openEHR-EHR-OBSERVATION.ankle_brachial_pressure_index.v0)

ARCHETYPE IDopenEHR-EHR-OBSERVATION.ankle_brachial_pressure_index.v0
ConceptAnkle brachial pressure index
DescriptionAnkle-brachial pressure index (ABPI).
UseTo record the the measurement of the local systolic blood pressures of the brachium and ankle, and the ratio of the blood pressure at the ankle to the blood pressure in the upper arm (brachium).
MisuseNot to be used for the measurement of arterial blood pressure which is a surrogate for arterial pressure in the systemic circulation - use the archetype OBSERVATION.blood_pressure for this purpose.
PurposeThe ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI) or ankle-brachial index (ABI) is the ratio of the blood pressure at the ankle to the blood pressure in the upper arm (brachium). Compared to the arm, lower blood pressure in the leg is an indication of blocked arteries due to peripheral artery disease (PAD). The ABPI is calculated by dividing the systolic blood pressure at the ankle by the systolic blood pressure in the arm.
